Dubrovnik
May 2013 - We journeyed to the maritime walled city of Dubrovnik, Croatia. Once part of its own republic, Dubrovnik is the centerpoint of the Dalmatian coast.
We had an incredible lunch at Kapetanova Kuca along the way at the fishing villages of Ston and Mali Ston, featuring some amazing langoustines, squid ink risotto, and of course oysters; they are famous for their oysters here, with thousands of oyster beds lining the waters throughout the area. This was also where we discovered the croatian walnut liquor, orahovac, which quickly became our favorite. A housemade liquor from made from unripe walnuts, I ended up make my own when we got home!
Dubrovnik took our breath away with how beautiful the city was. We stayed at the hotel Bellevue just a few minutes outside of the old city, which featured incredible views of the bay from our balcony. The old town featured the classic orange tiled roofs, many of which required repair after the war. You got spectacular views by walking the top of the town walls of the interior and glorious blue coast.
